Woodwork 1 First Fit

The NBSC Boat Woodwork 1

Last year we ran a pilot woodwork course for a number of our students who were completing fitouts on their own boats. The course was a real success with students tackling a number of practical exercises right up to constructing a panel door. The feed back from the students however was that there were lots of other things that they would like to see covered. As this is obviously not possible over a two day weekend we have split the course into two sections. Boat Woodwork 1 covers everything that you would need to take a bare shell and to get it to the stage where it is fully lined out. Boat Woodwork 2 looks at the second fix fitout covering carcassing, doors panelling etc.
Aimed at those people who are keen to do some refitting work or a complete fit out of a sailaway the course offers a practical introduction to the design, materials, tools and techniques of projects that are within the reach of people who have little hands on experience of this type of work.
The course includes
  1. Ballasting including types and installation
  2. Floor bearers and battening cabin sides and deck head including materials, setup and fixing
  3. Lining windows and portholes including hand routing linings
  4. Insulation, types, preparation, installation, clean up
  5. Cabin Side Lining including material selection and preparation, tools for cutting sheets, shapes and cutouts, fixing (multi tools, hand routing etc)
  6. Flooring including subfloors, preparation, laying, access panels
  7. Deckhead options including material selection, preparation and installation
  8. Bulkheads materials, measuring up and cutting, installation including pocket hole joinery.

As well as these subjects, and if time permits, other subjects can be covered by request.
